South Walton has a new wine bar.

The Naked Grape, located at Gulf Place on County Road 393S, opened its doors last weekend with a private invitation grand opening party to introduce the public to its laid-back edgy ambiance and cutting-edge features.

The small and intimate bar offers 20 different beers, 43 different wines, and a small tapas menu with selections of cheeses and other light fare. The tapas are prepared next door in the creative kitchen of the Smiling Fish Café.

The menus, as well as the libation selections are subject to change with the seasons, said general manager Todd Haynes. Wines are mostly from California and Oregon, and will also feature those of Italian origin. Wine cards will be sold, which can be used in a variety of dispensers along the wall of wine. The bar will offer live entertainment some nights, but the schedule will vary, said Haynes. “We want it to be a comfortable place to enjoy good wine and cold draft beer with friends as you overlook the Gulf of Mexico,” he said. “We will light the candles on the outside tables with Gulf views nightly when the sun starts to go down.”

Owners are Lee Provow, Dan Murphy, and John Gaston of Atlanta, all of whom own homes in the area and are frequent visitors. Although none of the three have owned a wine bar before now, Provow said they have tasted enough of it that opening one seemed like a good idea.
